The seconds are running down until we must receive Samsung’s upcoming flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S25. Though they are still a while off, the company’s upcoming flagship phones are undoubtedly going to be among the greatest when they release.
Consequently, we anticipate that the Samsung Galaxy S25 will implement all the requisite incremental enhancements to maintain its position as one of the top Android smartphones available. Furthermore, considering all of the Galaxy AI features that come with the Galaxy S24, it is quite likely that Samsung will release the Galaxy S25 with even more intriguing AI-powered capabilities.
We have compiled a list of things we would want to see with the Galaxy S25 Ultra since leaks have been gradually revealing ideas and hints about what to expect with the Samsung Galaxy S25. The information that we currently know about the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra is included below.
Samsung Galaxy S25: Rumored release date and price
around the past, Samsung has normally released its flagship series around January or February, early in the year. On January 17, 2024, during Galaxy Unpacked, the Galaxy S24 was revealed. It was made available for purchase on January 31, 2024. Given this, we believe that the 2025 launch and announcement of the Galaxy S25 will coincide with those anniversaries.
It would be fascinating to see whether Samsung moves forward the announcement date for the Samsung Galaxy S25. After all, the Galaxy S24 was shown a week ahead of schedule. Should that come to pass, it may compete with its other CES 2025 announcements.
We hope that the pricing of theSamsung Galaxy S25 does not alter too much. The Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra were released by Samsung for $799, $999, and $1,299, respectively; the S24 Ultra was the only model to have a price rise from the previous year. Samsung is less likely to raise pricing because Apple did not raise the price of its iPhone 16 series.
However, a leaker reports that the Galaxy S25’s increased price is mostly due to the higher cost of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 CPUs, which are probably going to power certain variants. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shares a concerning observation, pointing out that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will employ an expensive 3nm technology. Although there is still a long way to go until the Galaxy S25 launches, this is a claim that merits more investigation.
Samsung Galaxy S25: Design and display
Expanding the display size of the Samsung Galaxy S25 is one quick method Samsung may make a big design change. According to well-known leaker Yeux1122, the Galaxy S25’s screen will grow from the Galaxy S24’s 6.2 inches to a somewhat bigger 6.36 inches, thereby matching the iPhone 16 Pro’s larger display. Given that Samsung reduced the bezels on the S24 compared to the S23, we assume the phone will be somewhat bigger than the S23 in order to fit the larger screen. However, Samsung could be making the Ultra model, at the very least, rounder on the rear to make it easier to hold in your hand.
Other than the possibility of a bigger display, the Samsung Galaxy S25 design should be recognizable. That is to say, the titanium frame should remain exclusive to the S25 Ultra, while the S25 and S25 Plus should have the same armor aluminum frame. However, when more leaks surface, there is still plenty of time for things to change.
A rumor-based render has given us a glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s possible design. Though it still seems to have an integrated S Pen, it has a somewhat familiar appearance. Its display is bigger and its sides are rounded compared to earlier Ultra Galaxy models, which gives it a quite distinct appearance.
Regarding their screens, Samsung made a point of stating that the 2,600-nit screens are available on all three Galaxy S24 variants. Nevertheless, none of them even approached achieving those claims in our own benchmark testing. However, this will not stop the business from making improvements to this one specific function for the Galaxy S25.
More significantly, though, Samsung cannot afford to have another display problem similar to the Mura effect on the Galaxy S24, which results in a clouding effect when the brightness of the display is lowered. Using the Galaxy S24 Plus and S24 Ultra, we conducted our own tests to confirm that both phones exhibited the Mura effect.
Samsung Galaxy S25: Performance
A greater speed increase is suggested by one of the first leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S25, which comes from Qualcomm’s next processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, which is anticipated to break new ground with a clocked speed of 4GHz (or maybe 4.26GHz), is most likely going to power the Samsung Galaxy S25. The Galaxy S25 may have an advantage over its rivals in this new market because Qualcomm is supposedly moving to a 3-nanometer production technique for its next processor.
A fresh rumor regarding Samsung’s chip intentions has surfaced, despite reports that Samsung would only utilize the Exynos 2500 as its system-on-chip and that the company intended to employ both the Exynos 2500 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in the Galaxy S25. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, every Samsung Galaxy S25 variant would only have access to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. (Therefore, the price increase Kuo mentioned.) Another report, this one from Korea, claims that Samsung and MediaTek would work out a contract for processor supply for certain of the S25 versions.
Early performance benchmarks for the Samsung Galaxy S25 that were leaked achieve 3,236 and 10,049 points in the single and multicore Geekbench 6 tests, respectively. However, results from more leaked benchmark tests show somewhat lower scores of 3,069 and 9,080, which is presumably because the processor is operating at a reduced clocked speed.
Due to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s anticipated boost in processing power, theSamsung Galaxy S25 could require bigger batteries to supply the CPU with necessary juice. Other unintended consequences can include slower charging or a reduced overall battery life than in current versions.
Given that UFS 4.1 is expected to be released for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, that phone may receive an additional performance bump. Since UFS 4.0 is used by the majority of Galaxy S24 devices, the enhancement would be gradual but still produce a performance boost that would support any AI features offered with the new phone.
Additionally, satellite connection will be a significant connectivity boost for the Galaxy S24 series. This would facilitate off-grid messaging, especially to emergency services.
Samsung Galaxy S25: Cameras
Samsung’s phones have been almost unbeatable when it comes to cameras, as seen by the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s dominance over all other phones on our list of the best cameras phones for 2023. That all changed, though, when the Galaxy S24 was released due to the contentious decision to downgrade the S24 Ultra’s optical zoom camera to a 5x one.
Samsung has its work cut out for it with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, since our zoom test revealed a discernible difference between the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra. An improved primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera (up from the 12MP one on the S24 Ultra), and a new telephoto camera with “varying capabilities” are all mentioned in the tantalizing early reports.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra was supposed to experience the latter, although the S25 Ultra appears to be a better fit. It might indicate something else, or it could imply that we have a variable telephoto camera that can shift to different zoom levels. Consider the latest Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which has a variable aperture that can be adjusted to different degrees. Since zooming has always been the Ultra’s strong suit, we sincerely hope Samsung succeeds in this regard to make up for lost time.
For the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung may be doing away with the 3x telephoto zoom, according to a rumor. Instead of the quadruple camera system that the show is known for, this would provide a three camera setup. This assertion is made by leaker @ISAQUES81 based on a prototype that Samsung is testing. On the other hand, S25 ultra leaker Ice Universe asserts that the device still has four camera lenses. The leaker went on to claim that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultrawide and secondary telephoto lenses, which now use 50MP sensors in place of the S24 Ultra’s 12MP and 10MP sensors, need to be upgraded. Other leakers have repeated that assertion.
Less talk is being made at this time regarding the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus’ cameras. One of the few indications that Samsung has moved from using an ISOCELL camera sensor to a Sony one. The Galox, a leaker, claims that the cameras on the S25 and S25 Plus will not gain from a megapixel increase or a different layout.
Samsung recently unveiled new camera sensors, and given that the 50MP ISOCELL GNJ sensor is around the same size as the one found in the S24 and S24 Plus, we would not be surprised if we saw it appear in the S25 devices. An anti-refractive layer and pixel isolation are two features of the lens that should enhance light capture, lessen reflections, provide more realistic shadows, and enhance color reproduction.
Samsung cannot afford to lose to the iPhone 16 Pro, which is now atop our ranking of the greatest photography phones, no matter what happens. This is because, in our comparison of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Apple’s new flagship tops Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy S25: Battery & charging
If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s claimed power efficiency is confirmed, the Samsung Galaxy S25 might beat all previous records. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 allegedly being created using a 3-nanometer manufacturing method, all three of the Galaxy S24’s versions could boast significantly longer battery lives than their predecessor. This might lead to the Galaxy S25 producing longer battery lives.
We anticipate that the Samsung Galaxy S25 will, at minimum, have the same amount of battery life as the S24. Although there have been long-running speculations that Samsung will include stacked batteries into its flagship series, there is currently no concrete proof that the S25 will do so. Multiple sources suggest that Samsung will continue to use a 5,000 mAh battery for the S25 Ultra in the interim.
The phone’s ability to charge is one feature that is in dire need of improvement. With the Galaxy S24, Samsung maintained the same 25W wired charging speed, thus an update for the Galaxy S25 would be very appreciated. This is because 45W wired charging speeds are available for both the S24 Plus and S24 Ultra. However, because the OnePlus 12 provides evidence that you can have a completely charged phone in under 30 minutes, there is much more potential to enhance charging overall with the whole S25 series.
Finally, as the Galaxy S9 was the last model in the series to support 15W wireless charging, Samsung will also need to improve the wireless charging speed in the Galaxy S25 range. It is past time for an update, especially since the OnePlus 12 has an absurd 50W wireless charging speed.
Samsung Galaxy S25: Software and Galaxy AI features
Samsung will need to develop even more Galaxy AI capabilities with the Galaxy S25 after releasing a small number of them with the S24. Numerous Galaxy AI capabilities, such as Voice Recorder Summaries, Generative Edit, and Instant Slow-mo, have been put to the test by us, and the results show that many of them have real-world uses. Some, meanwhile, continue to teeter on the brink of novelty.
While there have not been any leaks on the new Galaxy AI features that the Galaxy S25 may bring, a Samsung official did mention that generative AI may be added to the Bixby personal assistant. But everyone is wondering how long they will be unique to the Galaxy S25 or if they will be carried across to other models. This is due to a software update bringing several formerly exclusive Galaxy AI functions of the Galaxy S24 to earlier Samsung phones.
One UI 7, an Android 15-based operating system that Samsung revealed in October 2024 and stated will be used on “the next Galaxy” coming the following year, will be the S25’s general operating system. Its upgrades include a new design, while the remaining new functions are either unannounced or unknown to beta testers.
