Why First Impressions Matter: The HP Omnibook Ultra Flip Review

I got the opportunity to use HP’s first 2-in-1 HP Omnibook Ultra Flip AI laptop ahead of its debut, which it unveiled during its Imagine event.

This 2-in-1 computer has several advantages thanks to its Intel Core Ultra (series 2) CPUs and high-end features, which include an amazing 14-inch OLED panel.

Is it going to be among the top laptops this year? Here are my first thoughts on the $1449 device, which is already accessible in the USA and will soon be available in other countries.

Important Elements

  • Chips with Intel AIOptions for the Intel Core Ultra 5, 7, and 9 chipset
  • Two-in-one style The 14-inch OLED display is foldable.

HP Omnibook Ultra Flip : Display

  • Lovely 14-inch OLED panel
  • 500 nits for HDR
  • 48-120Hz refresh rate

This is a truly nice show. The HP Omnibook Ultra Flip screen was impressive even though I was using it in a bright, artificially lit environment. It produced a vibrant, brilliant image with impressive colors and the perfect black that OLED is known for.

My favorite size is the 14-inch since it’s the ideal balance of productivity and portability. It’s also a crisp panel, with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 (HP calls this 3K), which feels like a better choice than 4K because of the efficiency gains.

Although HP Omnibook Ultra Flip representatives stated the panel can reach 400 nits in SDR video and 500 nits when playing back HDR, I didn’t get the opportunity to actually test the display with any HDR footage. These assertions are based on initial impressions, which will be verified once the machine reaches our laboratories.

In other places, the touch panel is incredibly snappy and the refresh rate has the option to alternate between 48 and 120 Hz for increased smoothness. All in all, this laptop display appears and functions quite well.

HP Omnibook Ultra Flip : Design

  • HP’s first AI-focussed convertible
  • Lovely textured body
  • Keyboard feels great

The HP Omnibook Ultra Flip appears quite boring in photos, much like any ordinary laptop intended for professional use. When you pick it up, though, you’ll see a lot of lovely design touches that make it much more pleasant in person.

First of all, the body had a pleasant texture, at least in the deeper shade I was using for my little demo session. It’s somber and a little gritty rather than shiny or slippy. Instead of simply attempting to create a MacBook clone, HP has taken a completely new and much appreciated approach.

Another advantage is the keyboard. The function row stands out for easy access thanks to its slightly different color from the rest of the deck and large, clicky keys. In total, there are three USB-C ports, two of which are compatible with Thunderbolt 4.

The last of these ports is located on the side of the device in a more conventional location, whereas the other two are slanted on the corners.

Naturally, the machine’s ability to transform from one form to another is its main feature. When the screen folds back, the laptop becomes a tablet that is still pleasant to carry. This type of machine is not new, albeit ones with AI intelligence like this one are—but in some cases, having no other distractions is rather helpful when you have such a magnificent panel.

HP Omnibook Ultra Flip : Performance

In certain configurations, this machine is high-end, as implied by the Ultra designation. There are several Intel Core Ultra (series 2) CPU choices available, and each one supports a wide range of AI features.

These include of HP’s AI services, which include a variety of AI security choices, as well as Microsoft’s CoPilot Plus slate. Additionally, HP Omnibook Ultra Flip is marketing the front-facing 9MP camera as a “AI camera,” claiming that the integrated NPU allows for features like background blur.

Though many of these AI functions still seem like gimmicks, and some, like Microsoft’s much-discussed Recall tool, are still absent, they have the potential to get better with time.

There are two RAM options: 16GB and 32GB. The storage capacity goes up to 2TB. In video playback tests, HP indicated that the battery life should be approximately 20 hours; however, we will need to do a thorough test on this when we receive the machines for comprehensive evaluation.

Early Verdict

Although the HP Omnibook Ultra Flip appears somewhat plain in photographs, closer inspection reveals that it has several positive aspects. There’s enough of power, a beautiful screen, and some good design elements.
